As sementes frescas germinam logo no inicio do Outono. Para alem do Helleborus temos:
- Pennisetum rubrum
- Pennisetum alopecuroides
- Carex comans "bronze"
- Leucophyta brownii
- Cosmos atrosanguineus
- Viburnum sp.
- Carex "frosted curls"
- Physostegia virginiana
your new Helen has a perfect matching backdrop in the building across the road
ResponderEliminarThat´s right Diana, and there are beautiful old buildings in this area. I like old windows, especially if it has some flowers...
Hello there. You have a very nice and informative blog. I have also very many different helleborus in my garden in Sweden. I did not know they would survive and thrive so far south as Portugal!
ResponderEliminarHave a nice day.

Hey there! Thank you so much for your kind comment...
EliminarHere in Portugual for many years hellebore was considered only possible in the north of the country, but in last years I have seen it grow and thrive also here in Lisbon where the climate is much milder even for portuguese standards. But I would say this is the southern limit for some species, like helleborus orientalis...I dont belive it could survive in the Algarve, for instance. The thing about Central /Northern Portugal is that we have normal seasons and much more water available through out the year, compared with other parts of mediterranian climate, we are an atlantic country, lots of rain comes from there.
But still you must allways treat hellebore as a shade plant in this country, other wise it wouldn´t survive to our very hot summer, and we must be careful not to forget water it from June to September...but some of these plants are actually quite drought tolerant when established.
It´s allways nice to have someone from the North, Best regards :)
